About the Concealed Carry / NRA Basic Pistol Class

The NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting is intended for all individuals regardless of previous shooting experience or NRA-affiliation. It is designed to provide you with the essential skills needed to responsibly own, operate, store, and maintain a handgun. This class qualifies the student to apply for the Concealed Carry Permit in Virginia, West Virginia, and Tennessee.

Our courses are small, so we can focus on your safety, provide personal attention, and help you learn to shoot in a safe, fun environment.

What you’ll learn:

This course is a blend of classroom and practical shooting instruction in which you’ll learn:

• Firearm Safety Rules and Overview
• Firearm Safety Gear and Best Practices
• Safe gun handling
• The parts and operations of semi-automatic pistols and revolvers
• Proper loading and unloading procedures
• Effective shooting stances
• Proper firearm grip
• Trigger Manipulation
• Proper Stance
• Aiming fundamentals
• Ammunition types and selection
• Marksmanship
• Shooting range safety & etiquette

What Do You Have To Bring?

For this class, the student can either provide their own gear (below) or, for $40, you can rent all the requisite gear including ammo from the instructor. If you need to rent gear, please make that request in advance of the class so the instructor can be sure to have sufficient gear for everyone.

For this class you will need the following:

• Government-issued photo ID
• A handgun in any caliber. (or borrow one from the instructor)
• 100 rounds of ammunition for the handgun
• Eye and ear protection
• Lunch and hydration

How Do I Apply For My CCW License After the Class?

After the class, you will walk out with a class completion certificate signed by the instructor which you will need to apply. We give you detailed instructions on how to apply for your permit.
